Trochus shell cup and lid, 1618-1625, (1881). Etching of a cup made from a shell by Abraham Lotter II in Augsurg, Germany, early 17th century. The shell is held by two silver-gilt straps: one is a cast female figure with a bowl of fruit on her head, the other a female bust. From " The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
