The Procession crossing the Merchants Area, 1844. Opening of the new Royal Exchange building in the City of London. The building was designed by Sir William Tite and was officially opened by Queen Victoria....her Majesty, leaning on the arm of Prince Albert, proceeded up the steps of the portico and through it to the entrance of the Merchants Quadrangle, or, as it is usually termed, the Merchants Area.
