Framed Print of Map of New England, 1677. Creator: John Foster
Map of New England, 1677. Self-proclaimed as the first map ever printed in America. Being the first that ever was here cut [ie engraved], and done by the best Pattern that could be had, which being in some places defective, it made the other less exact; yet doth it sufficiently shew the Scituation of the Country, and conveniently well the distance of Places. The figures that are joined with the Names of Places are to distinguish such as have been assaulted by the Indians from others'. From A Narrative of the Trouble with the Indians in New England, from the first planting thereof in the year 1607 to...1677. But chiefly... in...1675 and 1676. To which is added a Discourse about the Warre with the Pequods in the year 1637'. (Boston, 1677). Heritage Images features heritage image collections. © Heritage Art/Heritage Images
