The late Colonel Sir Henry Yule, R.E. editor of the Travels of Marco Polo, 1890. This eminent Orientalist was one of the highest English authorities on points of Asiatic geography and history, and had been a very useful member of the Indian Government service...[He was] sent to India in 1840. His first employment was in the construction of canals in the North-West Provinces...On the outbreak of war with Burmah he was sent to the Arracan frontier, in order to make a complete survey of the borders between that province and Upper Burmah...After his return to India the Mutiny broke out, and during 1857 he was employed on defensive works at Allahabad, Benares, and Mirzapore. In 1858 he was attached to the Railway Department...His influence on the literary and geographical matters submitted to the Library Committee of the India Office and on public works questions was much valued. He was made a Knight Commander of the Star of India twelve months ago. The most important of his literary works are the learned commentary and annotations of an edition, published in 1871, of the travels of the old Venetian merchant Marco Polo... also "Hobson-Jobson, a Glossary of Anglo-Indian Terms and Phrases". Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
