House of Commons Steeplechase at Rugby, March 29. - rush at the first fence: Mr. A. E. Pease, M.P. leading with Norah Creina, 1890. The "point-to-point steeplechase, " between gentlemen riders who are members of the House of Commons, has taken place this year with improved arrangements, and was a successful affair...The race was a good one. Mr. Pease, with Norah Creina, led directly the flag fell, and, forcing the pace, was soon a hundred yards in front, his nearest attendants being Sir Savile Crossley, Mr. Elliott Lees, and Mr. Muntz. At the first fence Mr. Long came down, but soon remounted...In crossing the brook Mr. Mildmay came down, and, his horse refusing at the road, he was practically out of the race. Just before reaching the road Mr. Jarvis came to grief, and when on the ground sustained a kick in the face from his horse. He, however, pluckily remounted, and went after the leaders. When about a quarter of a mile from home Mr. Lees challenged Mr. Pease for the lead, and, soon getting the better of the gallant grey, ran home a clever winner by several lengths. Mr. Pease was second, Lord Ernest Hamilton third, Mr. Hodge fourth, and Mr. Muntz fifth'. From "Illustrated London News", 1890.
