The Military Order of Max Joseph. The Military Order of Max Joseph was founded in 1806 by Maximilian I Joseph (1756-1825), the first king of Bavaria. The badge of the order is a white-enameled gold Maltese cross. On the centre of its blue and gold medallion it features the monogram of Max Joseph (MJK) and on the reverse the Latin motto of the order, Virtuti pro patria. Above the cross is a gold crown
