Day of 13 Vendemiaire of the Year 4, 1797, (1921). Creator: Isidore-Stanislas Helman

Day of 13 Vendemiaire of the Year 4, 1797, (1921). Journee du XIII Vendemiaire, l an IV. Depiction of events on 5 October 1795: royalist-influenced sections of Paris revolted to prevent the adoption of a new constitution that protected the position of the radicals. The willingness of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) to fire cannons on the demonstrators - in his words, to give them a whiff of grapeshot - consolidated the governments control. Engraving by Isidore-Stanislas Helman after Charles Monnet. From " Napoleon", by Raymond Guyot. [H. Floury, Paris, 1921]
