Commander Wilmot, of HMS Euryalus, 1863. Wilmot was second-in-command of the Euryalus, flagship of the British squadron at the bombardment of the Japanese port of Kagoshima in August 1863. He and his commanding officer, Captain Josling, were killed during the fighting when they were both decapitated by the same cannonball, fired from the Japanese forts on the shore.
