The Vindictive at Zeebrugge, 1918 (1919). HMS Vindictive was a British Arrogant-class cruiser built at Chatham Dockyard. She was launched on 9 December 1897 and completed in 1899. In 1918 Vindictive was fitted out for the Zeebrugge Raid which took place on 23 April 1918. Most of the guns were replaced by howitzers, flame-throwers and mortars for the attack on the German-held Belgian port. Painting held at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. Sea Fight Between the English and Dutch Off Ter Heyde, August, 1653, (1914). The Battle of Terheide, depiction of a naval battle fought on 10 August 1653 between the English and Dutch fleets during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. The largest vessel in the Dutch fleet, the Brederode, commanded by Admiral Maerten Harpertsz Tromp, is firing its cannons at an English ship (centre).
