Colonel Charles A Lindbergh, American aviator, c1931 (c1937)
Colonel Charles A Lindbergh, American aviator, c1931 (c1937). Charles Augustus Lindbergh (1902-1974) was an aviator, author, inventor, military officer, explorer, and social activist. In 1927 he became the first aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic, piloting a purpose-built Ryan monoplane christened Spirit of St Louis from New York to Paris in a flight taking 33.5 hours. In March 1932, his infant son, Charles Jr, was kidnapped and murdered, the crime sparking a media frenzy. From Wonders of World Aviation, Vol. 1, by Clarence Winchester.
