The Welwyn Viaduct, 1850. Creator: Unknown

The Welwyn Viaduct, [Hertfordshire], 1850. Railway bridge on the London-York section of the Great Northern Railway. At Welwyn the train stopped for some time, while the passengers went to view the magnificent viaduct by which the railway there crosses the valley. This viaduct consists of 42 arches, each 30 feet wide and 97 feet high, and has been built at a cost of from £70, 000 to £80, 000'. It was designed by William Cubitt and styled after a Roman aqueduct. From "Illustrated London News", 1850
