The Derby 1863 - Portrait of The Winner, 1863. A topical cartoon from Punch. Palmerston, trainer of the British people, welcomes home the Derby winner. The rider is John Bull, representative of the British Constitution - a winner despite being weighed down by a mighty tax belt. He has clearly come in ahead of the warring Americans, the problems of the Pope and the difficulties between Italy and France, Russia and Poland - sketches of all of whom can be seen in the background. Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached.
