Testimonial to Mr. C. J. Monk, M.P. from the Civil Service, 1869. An address was recently presented to Mr. Monk, M.P. by the members of the Civil Service throughout the kingdom, expressing their gratitude for his successful efforts to obtain their enfranchisement. The address has been written upon highly illuminated pages of vellum, bound like a book, and inclosed in a casket. The ornamentation is in the Renaissance style, and includes views of the Houses of Parliament, Somerset House, the Custom House, and the Post Office. There were present Mr. Felix J. Hamel, Solicitor of Customs; Mr. R. A. Ogilvie, Surveyor-General of Customs; Mr. W. H. Ashurst, Solicitor to the General Post Office; Mr. Edwin Beedell, Mr. G. W. Bennett, Mr. J. E. Horan, Mr. J. C. Jackson, and Mr. E. Bishopp Smith, of the Customs; Mr. S. Walliker, Postmaster, Hull; and Mr. J. R. Reed, of the Inland Revenue, Derby. The bound volume and casket were designed and manufactured by Messrs. Marcus Ward and Co. of Belfast, and of Chandos- street, Covent-garden'. From Illustrated London News, 1869. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
