Silver gilt spoon, late 15th century, (1881). Creator: R I Stevenson
Silver gilt spoon, late 15th century, (1881). Etching of a short-handled spoon made in Denmark, engraved on the bowl with the figures of St Anne, the Virgin Mary and the infant Christ. (The back is inset with an animal tooth, probably intended to be a charm against disease and misfortune). From " The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum). [Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, London, 1881]
