Silver gilt cup and cover, 1669-1670, (1881). Creator: W T Roberts
Silver gilt cup and cover, 1669-1670, (1881). Etching of a two-handled cagework presentation cup, made in London in the late 17th century, possibly from the workshop of the Dutch goldsmith Christian van Vianen or his partner Gerard Cooqus, silversmith to King Charles II. It is decorated with stylised foliage and a bird - possibly a peacock - and is supported on clawed feet. From " The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
