Richard Cobden, c1850, (c1884). Richard Cobden (1804-1865) English manufacturer, Radical and Liberal statesman, educated locally with further study at the London Institution. An advocate for free trade, he founded the Anti-Corn Law League with John Bright and was associated with the Cobden-Chevalier Treaty.
