Framed Print of Portrait of Michal Jerzy Wandalin Mniszech (1748-1806), Grand Marshal of the Crown, after 1781. Creator: Unknown

Portrait of Michal Jerzy Wandalin Mniszech (1748-1806), Grand Marshal of the Crown, after 1781.
Michal became Colonel in 1757, Crown Cupbearer in 1777, Lithuanian Grand Secretary in 1778, Chief of the Royal Chancellery in 1780. He served also as Lithuanian Court Marshal from 1781 until 1783 and Crown Grand Marshal from 1783 until 1793. In 1797 he was appointed Privy Councillor of state by Paul I. He was starosta of Lublin, Jawor, Slonim and Rostoki.
Additional Info: Michal Jerzy Wandalin Mniszech, born in 1748, was one of the central figures of the Enlightenment during the reign of Stanislaw August Poniatowski [Stanislaus II Augustus Poniatowski]. Thoroughly educated abroad, he became one of the closest people from the circle of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. In 1781 he married his niece, Urszula Zamoyska. Mniszech participated in Thursday Dinners and advised the ruler on matters of science and culture. He also held positions in the Commission of National Education and the Permanent Council, and also held the office of the Grand Marshal of the Crown. The portrait of Mniszech was based on the image made in 1790 by Johann Baptist von Lampi the Elder, an artist from South Tyrol (currently Upper Adige in Italy), specialising mainly in portraits, who worked for the aristocracy in Austria, Italy, Poland and Russia.
