Peace of Amboise ending the first French Religious War, 13 March 1563 (1570). The peace conference was held on the Isle de Boeuf, Orleans. Amongst those present were Catherine de Medici (1519-1589) and Anne de Montmorency, Constable of France (1493-1767), for the Catholics, and Louis, Prince de Conde (1530-1569) and Francois de Coligny, Seigneur d Andelot (1521-1569) on the Huguenot side. The French Religious Wars between the Catholics and the Protestant Huguenots took place between 1562 and 1598. They were sparked by a massacre of Huguenots during a service at Vassy, incited by the Guise family. The conflict ended when Henry IV issued the Edict of Nantes, granting Protestants and Catholics equal rights
