He arrived in London on 11th April 1864 where he was, according to Punch, greeted by millions of Londoners. Apparently, he left quite suddenly on 22nd April. The reasons given were that he was suffering from poor health and general fatigue. However, Punch considered that his popularity had begun to embarrass the Government and that his 'parting' had been politely, but firmly 'sped' by the British authorities.
