'The Queen's Visit To Her Birthplace: The Scene Outside St. Mary's Church, Kensington', London, (c1897). 'In the carriage with Her Majesty are the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Serge of Russia and Princess Henry of Battenberg. On the pavement stands the Princess Louise, Marchioness of Lorne, with a bouquet in her hands; the Marquis stands on her left. Opposite the carriage door is Miss Beatrice Leete, daughter of the Vestry Clerk, from whom the Queen graciously accepted a magnificent basket of carnations.' 'The Bower Meadow', (c1912). Two women playing dulcimer and lute, the landscape background was painted at Sevenoaks in Kent in 1850, painting completed in 1872. British poet, illustrator, painter and translator Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882) founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais. Rossetti drew extensively on medieval influences, and particularly the work of his namesake, the Italian writer and poet Dante Alighieri. He married his model Elizabeth Siddal who sat for ‘Beata Beatrix', painted a year after her death. He later became a founding partner in the decorative arts firm, Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co, developing a relationship with William Morris' wife Jane who became one of his ‘muses'. 'Angel with Monstrance', c1767, (1928). Chalk on paper. 'Part study for the San Pasqual de Baylon, painted 1767-1769, for the high altar of the Monastery Church of Aranjuez which was never erected, only the upper part of the knee-length figure of an angel is in the Prado in Madrid'. At one time known to have been in the collection of Henry Oppenheimer, London. Italian Venetian painter and printmaker Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696-1770), worked not only in Italy, but also in Germany and Spain. He was commissioned to carry out frescoes in churches and palaces, and was elected President of the Academy of Padua. As well as his large-scale majestic works, he also produced etchings and oil paintings, and is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the period.
