The Great Western Railway New Terminus, at Paddington, 1854. Newly opened station at Paddington in London: It is the joint work of Mr [Isambard Kingdom] Brunel and Mr. [Matthew Digby] Wyatt: the former having arranged the general plan, and the engineering and business portion; the latter the architectural details in every department...The roofing contains 189 wrought-iron ribs, or arches, of an elliptical form, and arranged in rows of three each, parallel to one another, with twelve diagonal ribs at the transepts...The central half of each of the curved roofs is glazed, and the other portion is covered with corrugated galvanised iron...The execution of the design has been superintended by Mr. Brunel, principally through one of his chief assistants, Mr. Charles Gainsford. The work was done by Messrs. Fox, Henderson, and Co'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854
