Plan of the Cathedral Church of Durham. late 18th century. Plan of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and St Cuthbert of Durham, also known as Durham Cathedral, in Durham, County Durham. It was designed and built 1093-1133 under William of St Carilef (or William of Calais), appointed first prince-bishop by William the Conqueror in 1080, and is regarded as a fine example of Norman architecture.
