Emmeline Pankhurst, British suffragette, in a cell in Holloway Prison, London, 1908
Emmeline Pankhurst, British suffragette, in a cell in Holloway Prison, London, 1908. Emmeline Pankhurst (1857-1918) and her daughter Christabel (1880-1958), were among the leaders of the campaign to secure the vote for women. Their militant tactics resulted in their being arrested on numerous occasions (12 times in one year in Emmelines case). In 1908, the women served 2 months apiece in Holloway Prison after leading a deputation to Parliament and inciting the crowd to rush the House of Commons
