The Constitution and the Guerriere, c1813. On the 19 August 1812, the American heavy frigate USS Constitution engaged with the British frigate HMS Guerriere. The British vessel was severely damaged in the battle and surrendered to the Americans. Too badly damaged to be taken in, the Guerriere was set on fire and sank. From Old Naval Prints, by Charles N.
