The Woolly Bear. (1919). Creator: Unknown
The " Woolly Bear". (1919). Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: A shrapnel shell bursts overhead the first-line trenches. The form of this shell-burst has not inaptly been called the " woolly bear" by the British soldier. The heavy cloud of shell-bursts on the distant German lines clearly indicates a certain " liveliness" on the British front. From " The History of the Great European War: its causes and effects", Vol. V, by W. Stanley Macbean Knight. [Caxton Pulishing Company, Limited, London, 1919]
