Victoria Hospital, Netley, 1859. Royal Victoria Hospital, or Netley Hospital was a large military hospital in Netley, near Southampton, Hampshire, England. Construction began in 1856 at the suggestion of Queen Victoria, its design caused some controversy, from Florence Nightingale. The hospital was used extensively during the First World War.
