USS Indiana, American battleship, 1898. Commissioned in 1895, the Indiana was the lead ship of a class of three pre-dreadnought battleships. Together with her sisters, Massachusetts and Oregon, she participated in the Battle of Santiago on 3 July 1898 during the Spanish-American War, in which the Spanish Caribbean Squadron was destroyed.
