The Surrender of the German Fleet at Sunset on November 21, 1918, (c1920). German sailors lower the Imperial battle flag on one of the battleships after the First World War armistice. Despite the German ships still belonging to Germany, British Royal Navy Admiral David Beatty insisted they could no longer fly their ensigns, technically a breach of maritime law. Drawn by Douglas Macpherson, on board HMS Resolution. From " The Great World War: A History", Volume IX, edited by Frank A Mumby. [The Gresham Publishing Company Ltd, London, c1920]
