Testimonial to Vice-Admiral Sir Alexander Milne, from Bermuda, 1864. Creator: Unknown
Testimonial to Vice-Admiral Sir Alexander Milne, from Bermuda, 1864. 'Our Engraving represents a handsome piece of plate, which has been manufactured by Messrs. Widdowson and Veale, for presentation to Vice-Admiral Sir A. Milne, K.C.B., as a farewell gift from the inhabitants of Bermuda upon the occasion of his retirement from the naval command of that station. The three figures standing around the stem of the candelabrum are Britannia, Prudence, and Prosperity. The following is the inscription on its base: "Presented to Vice-Admiral Sir Alexander Milne, K.C.B., Naval Commander-in-Chief on the North American and West India Station, by the inhabitants of Bermuda, on the close of his command on that station, in testimony of their appreciation of his public service and personal character"'. One of Milne's duties was capturing slave-traders. From "Illustrated London News", 1864
