Professor Cayley, President of the British Association, 1883. Engraving from a photograph by Mr. Barraud of the Sadlerian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University...This eminent mathematician...was born at Richmond, Surrey, in 1821, and was educated at King's College, London, and at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took his B.A. degree in 1842, winning the double mathematical honour of Senior Wrangler and Smith's Prizeman...When the Sadlerian Professorship was established, in 1863, Mr. Cayley was elected to be the first holder of this Chair; and it was in 1875, by the provisions of a College Statute enabling a Professor or Public Lecturer of the University to be chosen for a College Fellowship, that he became a Fellow of Trinity. Professor Cayley received the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws from the University of Oxford in 1864, and next year that of Doctor of Laws from the University of Dublin: in 1875 the University of Leyden conferred upon him, most appropriately, that of Doctor of Mathematics and Physics. He is also a Corresponding Member of the Institute of France for the Section of Astronomy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, of the Royal Astronomical Society, and of several other scientific bodies'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
