Prince Albert Edward (1841-1910, the future King Edward VII, second left), meets officials, diplomats, and military officers at St Jamess Palace in London. Court levees were formal receptions held by the British monarchy until 1939. Guests in full dress uniform or court dress were presented individually, and bowed to the monarch, with officials of the Royal Household and senior officers in attendance.
