James III, King of Scotland, (1797). Portrait of King James III (1452-1488), who ruled Scotland from 1460. His weakness as a ruler saw him confronted with two major rebellions by Scotlands nobility. Confronting the second of these, he was defeated and killed at the Battle of Sauchieburn on 11th June 1488
