Portrait of Swidzinski, between 1834-1839.
Stanislaw Swidzinski was a colonel of the Crown Army, a regiment of the Ukrainian party, starost of Braclaw and Radom. From 1739 he was the voivode of Braclaw, and from 1754 of Rawa. Swidzinski was also a deputy to the Sejm of 1730 from the Rawa region. From 1739, as the voivode of Braclaw, he served as a senator. In 1742 he received the Order of the White Eagle.
The strong, self-confident posture was accentuated by the gesture of his right hand holding a large book supported by the lower part of the spine against the marble top of a decorative, gilded console. The official character of the portrait is emphasized by the outfit of Swidzinski, dressed, in accordance with the Sarmatian fashion, in a crimson zupan, breastplate, and a dark blue, velvet delia lined with fur and fastened on the right shoulder. The identity of the model and his rank are emphasized by the insignia of the Order of the White Eagle: the star of the order sewn on the delia, at the height of the chest, and the blue ribbon and decorative blade of the sword pinned to the side. An additional attribute indicating the dignity of Swidzinski is an inkwell with a pen placed on a console. The painting is painted smoothly, with attention to detail. A relatively narrow range of dark colors with a predominance of browns is enlivened by red and blue accents of the model's outfit.
