New Court of the Louvre, Paris, 1856. Creator: Unknown
New Court of the Louvre, Paris, 1856. View of...that portion which has been most recently finished, and completes the great square contained within the Carrousel, the facade of the old Louvre, and the new constructions...the Pavilion at the corner of the Oratoire has also been finished, as well as the line of buildings which unites it with the ancient palace. It has been decided by the Emperor that the library of the Louvre and the permanent Exposition should be placed in the transverse line of buildings joining the Pavilion, on the square of the Palais Royal, with that on the Place Napoleon...two green inclosures, like our squares, have been laid out...They are separated by a large esplanade, and surrounded by a pavement of granite. A similar pavement runs the whole length of the new buildings'. From "Illustrated London News", 1856
