American pioneering aviator Bernetta Adams Miller enrolled for instruction at the Moisant Flying School at Hempstead Plains, Long Island, New York. After receiving her license she joined Moisant's International Aviators, a flying circus. Miller was the fifth licensed woman pilot in the United States. She won a Croix de Guerre in World War I
