Meeting of the Arbitrators on the Alabama claims at Geneva, 1871 (late 19th century)

Meeting of the Arbitrators on the Alabama claims at Geneva, 1871 (late 19th century). The Alabama Claims were a series of claims for damages made by the US government against Britain for alleged covert assistance given to the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The proceedings got their name from the CSS Alabama, a Confederate raider built in Liverpool. The tribunal awarded the US damages of $15.5 million.
