Ludwig Philipp - Konig von Frankreich (1773-1850), 1933. Creator: Unknown
Ludwig Philipp, (1933). Portrait of Louis Philippe I, King of France (1773-1850), who was proclaimed king in 1830 after the overthrow of the repressive regime of Charles X by the July Revolution. Ruling as King of the French rather than of France, he attempted to establish a monarchy more in touch with the people than previously. Louis Philippes rule was initially popular, but his regime increasingly came to be regarded as conservative and favouring the wealthy. In 1848 the people revolted again and Louis Philippe abdicated and fled to England. His overthrow brought an end to the monarchy in France. After a miniature by Jean-Baptiste Isabey. From " Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]
