The London Crystal Palace, Regent-Circus, Oxford-Street, [London], 1858. Engraving from a drawing by Edmund Walker, of the London Crystal Palace Bazaar, a...novel structure, which has been erected by Messrs. Kennard (Brothers), the contractors, from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Owen Jones. The London Crystal Palace is intended to be a bazaar for the exhibition and sale of goods of the most elegant description...the building may be described as constructed substantially of iron and glass-a glass roof supported on iron columns, and therein modelled somewhat after its Sydenham prototype...its grand attractions consist in its construction, its internal decoration, and in the manner in which it is lighted...[This will be] by starlike gas-pendants...by a skilful management the coloured rays...By this mode of lighting no shadow will be thrown upon the objects exhibited either by night or day...the first floor is to be devoted to aviaries and aquaria, whilst the upper floors are proposed to be let to M. Laroche, photographer, of Oxford-street...A private room for luncheons for ladies should be especially noted; and, in conclusion, a word of acknowledgment to Mr. Lamb, the zealous and efficient clerk of the works, is justly due'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
