The late Major-General C. B. Brackenbury, R.A. 1890. Engraving from a photograph by Messrs. Window and Grove. This accomplished military officer, Director of Artillery studies at Woolwich, died of heart disease, in a railway carriage, on June 20...He was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, entered the Royal Artillery, and...became Colonel [in] 1882. He has been an Assistant Instructor in Artillery, Assistant Director of Artillery studies, Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General in the Intelligence Department of the War Office, Superintending Officer of Garrison Instruction, Assistant Director of Military Education, and Superintendent of the Royal Gunpowder Factory. In 1887 he was appointed Director of Artillery Studies...[He] was present at the siege of Sebastopol, and went through the Bohemian campaign of 1866 and the campaign of Le Mans with the army of Prince Frederick Charles, in 1871. He also accompanied the Russian army during the campaign of 1877, in Bulgaria, and crossed the Balkans...He was one of the best and most extensive writers on all military subjects, and was the author of...many essays and lectures on military affairs; and a "Life of Frederick the Great". Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
