The International Exhibition: architectural clay manufactures of the Shropshire coalfields, 1862. The encaustic pavement in the centre is...in colour red, black, and cream-yellow. The outer border has the ornament cream-coloured on a black ground, then comes a broadband of the low-toned red (Indian red), then there are cream triangles on a black ground...the outer border is repeated, then follows the central filling, which consists of plain black triangular tiles, plain red tile of the same form, and square red tiles enriched with cream ornament. This is one of those successful pavements which must ever enhance the beauty of a conservatory or hall...The chimneypot to the left...is of cream-coloured clay, yet into all the indentations a red maroon colour is introduced. That at the right is of a more attractive character, as red, blue, and green are liberally applied to the cream-coloured surface. The success of the works exhibited by Messrs. Maw and Co. leads us to regret that colour is not more used in the construction of our dwellings than it is, for here the means are afforded for its general adoption. The object in the front of our group is a flower- box formed of the Shropshire clay. In design it is modem French of a florid character'. From Illustrated London News, 1862. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
