Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich of Russia, c1866-c1870(?). Grand Duke Alexei (1850-1908) was the sixth child and fourth son of Tsar Alexander II and his first wife, Maria Alexandrovna. He served in the Russian Navy and was appointed General Admiral in 1883. He oversaw the acquisition on new ships and the modernisation of the Navy's bases, but was dismissed from his command and retired after the disastrous defeat at the Battle of Tsushima in 1905 during the Russo-Japanese War. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.

Tsar Alexander II of Russia with his son, Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich, c1860-c1861. Alexander (1818-1881) was Tsar from 1855. Known as 'The Liberator', he emancipated Russia's serfs in 1861. The pace of reform under Alexander's rule was too slow for some, however, and on 13 March 1881 he was assassinated in St Petersburg by a bomb thrown by a nihilist student. Grand Duke Paul (1860-1919) was the eighth and youngest child of Alexander and Maria Alexandrovna. He was executed by the Bolsheviks after the Russian Revolution. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.

The four eldest children of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich of Russia, c1860-c1861. Grand Duchess Vera Constantinovna (1854-1912), Grand Duke Nicholas Constantinovich (1850-1918), Grand Duke Constantine Constantinovich (1858-1915) and Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna (1851-1926), who went on to become Queen Consort of King George I of Greece, and was the grandmother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich (1827-1892) was the second son of Tsar Nicholas I and Alexandra Fyodorovna. He married Grand Duchess Alexandra Iosifovna in 1848. They had six children. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
