New room at the British Museum, 1845. Creator: Unknown

New room at the British Museum, 1845. Visitors in the western wing of the British Museum in London, recently opened to the public: ...though the articles in the cases are scarcely yet arranged. In the centre of the apartment is placed the magnificent Chinese Bell, taken from a Buddhist Temple at Ningpo, and presented to the Museum by her Majesty [Queen Victoria]. On account of the present position of the Bell, the new apartment at the Museum has been called the "Chinese Room"; though, besides this spoil, there are but few curiosities of Celestial civilisation. Here will be found the specimens of South Sea manufacture which formerly filled the first of the old suite of the Museum Rooms...There are, likewise, several idols, happily becoming comparatively rare in the countries whence they were obtained.'. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII

General Seely's Warrior, April 1922. Foaled in 1908 on the Isle of Wight, Warrior went to war on the Western Front with General Jack Seely, in 1914. He was active in many famous battles including those at the Somme and Ypres. Returning with Jack Seely to the Isle of Wight in 1918, he lived on until the grand old age of 33, even winning a point to point four years to the day that he had led the charge at Moreuil Wood. His obituary in the Evening Standard in 1941 read ‘Horse the Germans Could Not Kill'. In 2014, 100 years after Warrior went to war on the Western Front, he was awarded the PDSA Dickin medal, recognised at the animals Victoria Cross and honouring all the animals that served in the Great War
