Henry IV, (1367-1413), 1830. Henry IV (1367-1413) King of England from 1399 to 1413. The son of John of Gaunt, he spent much of his reign defending himself against plots, rebellions and assassination attempts. Duke Humphrey's Library, c1902. Duke Humfrey's Library is the oldest reading room in the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford. Duke Humfrey's Library is named after Humphrey of Lancaster, 1st Duke of Gloucester, a younger son of Henry IV of England. Oxford built Duke Humfrey's Library as a second story to the Divinity School in 1450-80. It is used as Hogwart's library in the Harry Potter series of films. Henry IV reproving Prince Henry, (19th century). Henry Bolingbroke (1367-1413) became king in 1399 when he led a baronial revolt that overthrew the rule of Richard II. Ruling as Henry IV, he was the first king of the House of Lancaster. His son, Henry V (1387-1422) became king in 1413. He is popularly regarded as one of England's greatest kings, primarily because of his exploits in war against the French, beginning with his victory at Agincourt in 1415
