Beirout, the ancient Berothah, Syria, 1841. Bairuth et le Mont Liban. Berothah or Berothai was a city in ancient Syria belonging to Hadadezer bar Rehob, king of Zobah in the early tenth century BCE. It is identified by many scholars with the Berothah mentioned in Ezekiel, which was between Hamath and Damascus. From Syria, the Holy land and Asia Minor, volume II, by John Carne, published by Fisher, Son & Co. (London, 1841)
