Jose Antonio Saco, (1797-1879), 1920s
Jose Antonio Saco was born in Bavamo in 1797 and was the most fervent defender of the freedom of Cuba in a good part of the nineteenth century. Tacon expelled him in 1834 and he was elected deputy and was expelled from the Courts with other Cubans in1837. He was a great polemicist, and fought annexation.
