Danilov Monastery, Moscow, Russia, 1882. The Danilov Monastery was originally founded in the 13th century by Alexander Nevskys son, Daniil. It was closed in 1929 by order of the Soviet authorities but since 1983 was the first monastery to be restored to the Moscow Patriarchy and now serves as the headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church.
