The Earthquakes in Asia Minor: sketches in the villages destroyed, 1883. 1. Town and Port of Chesmeh. 2. Village of Reis-Dereh, with houses shattered and unroofed. 3. Opposite houses fallen against each other [in the village of Alatzaeta]. 4. Pashas and Doctors arranging for relief of wounded...the number actually killed is but ninety...but thousands have been rendered homeless, and, having lost all their property, are in a state of utter destitution. We are indebted to Lieutenant Rudolph de Lisle, R.N. of H.M.S. Alexandra...for the Sketches...showing some of the effects of this disastrous visitation. The British squadron...put to sea at once, proceeding to Chesmeh to render assistance...the Turkish and Greek local authorities were doing all they could to relieve the distress of the people. The wounded and sick, the women and children, were housed under canvas tents and rough shelters...the Turkish governor, Sali Pasha, visited them, and gave directions for their relief; the Pasha is seen discussing with a Turkish and an English medical officer the proper means to be used...All the roofs of the houses have fallen in, and many of the walls...the Carysfort is lying in the port, with Turkish gun-boats'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
