Framed Print of Demolitions for the Great Eastern Railway extension to Broad-Street, 1871. Creator: Unknown

Demolitions for the Great Eastern Railway extension to Broad-Street, [London], 1871....the present appearance of the ground as viewed from Liverpool-street: Destruction of the City of London Theatre; Great Eastern Railway, site of the new city station - Broad Street; ruins of Worship St. Gas Works...The works in progress for the City Terminus Extension of the Great Eastern Railway have involved the demolition of many buildings to clear the ground. The projected extension line will be carried obliquely across the street at Norton Folgate, between Bishopsgate-street Without and Shoreditch, a little way to the south of the present terminus in Shoreditch. On the west side of Bishopsgate-street the line will turn in a southerly direction, crossing Worship-street, Primrose-street, Skinner-street, and Sun-street, to reach the site of the proposed City terminus. This will occupy a large piece of ground about 700 ft. long by 400 ft. wide, lying between Sun-street and Liverpool-street. Its front will be in Liverpool-street, in a line with that of the adjoining City terminus of the North London Railway, and with the City Goods Station of the London and North-Western Railway, opposite the end of New Broad-street'.
