Courtyard of Chillingham Castle, Northumberland, 1872. The village and castle of Chillingham, the seat of the Earl of Tankerville, visited by the Prince and Princess of Wales this week, are situated in the northern part of Northumberland, five miles east of Wooler, near the banks of the river Till, which runs by the battle-field of Flodden and enters the Tweed at no very great distance...The castle is a strong square pile of Elizabethan architecture, placed on an eminence amidst the trees. It has four stories in the wings, but three in the centre of the building. From the middle court an ascent of steps leads up to a landing with a balustrade, adorned in front with some figures of armed British warriors. The apartments inside the castle have several good historical portraits to show, those of Lord Bacon, Lord Burleigh, Kings Charles and James, and Villiers, Duke of Buckingham. There is also the trace of a great natural curiosity - a chimney-piece made of a block of marble, in which a living toad was found inclosed'. From Illustrated London News, 1872. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
