Captain Adams addresses recruits, July 1917. Captain Charles Albert Adams (1846-1929), a U.S. naval officer who served as the commander of the U.S.S. Recruit, a wooden mockup of a battleship built in Union Square, New York City by the Navy to recruit seamen and sell Liberty Bonds during World War I. Adams is bidding farewell to new recruits along with Canadian Highlander soldiers ("Kilties") who were in New York in July 1917 to assist in recruitment
